May 27th, 2009 at 8:00AM: Hurricane season will not keep travelers from their destinations! A recent survey by TripAdvisor®, which mined the opinions of more than 1,000 U.S. travelers, reports that 43 percent plan to hit a hurricane-prone destination this summer or fall – peak hurricane season. This is up from 36 percent last year. Sixty-five percent of the survey's respondents are doing this to take advantage of ...

May 22nd, 2009 at 3:00PM:
More than 1,800 readers have spoken their minds on TripAdvisor and picked their favorite beaches. This summer, 58 percent of vacationers will be headed for sun, sand and surf – making the spot where ocean meets turf the most popular destination. The only challenge now is picking one. There are thousands of miles of coast in the United States alone ... how do you choose one spot?
Well, the ...

May 6th, 2009 at 12:00PM: Why do I always miss the good stuff?
Disney has announced that it's no longer going to scan riders on Splash Mountain, Tower of Terror, Space Mountain and California Screamin ... for unfettered chests. Apparently, women are known on these rides from time to time to flash for the camera. Though I've looked for it on each ride, I've never witnessed these public displays of exuberance.
I'm not ...

Apr 30th, 2009 at 9:00AM:
Watch the streets of Cincinnati carefully: you may see a man clad in a mask and cape scouring the city in search of evil deeds and damsels in distress. Shadowhare, who (obviously) prefers to conceal his true identity has volunteered his services to the city's citizens and civil servants ... free of charge.
This is bigger than voting and jury duty combined.
This superhero is 21 years old ...

Apr 30th, 2009 at 8:00AM: I love the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort. I spent a weekend down there just shy of a year ago, and it's become my mission in life to get back there. Until that happens, though, you may ant to see it for yourself. Even if you don't play golf (personally, I hate the game), there is plenty to enjoy.
The Family Summer Package, which starts at $239 a night, is available from the first day of May to the ...

Apr 27th, 2009 at 8:00AM: Winter Park is often described as Orlando's answer to the Hamptons on Long Island. There are large houses, upscale shops, wine bars and experiences that you generally wouldn't associate with Orlando. Only about 15 minutes from downtown Orlando, it's a great day trip for families that are worn out by the breakneck pace of the theme parks.
The main attraction is Park Avenue, the heart of the local ...

Apr 21st, 2009 at 5:30PM: I've been saying it sarcastically for years: Pets need their own airline. Finally, Pet Airways of Delray Beach, Florida, has answered my fake prayers.
The new airline's founders, Dan Wiesel and Alysa Binder, got the idea after they traveled with their dog Zoe, and their airline is the world's first that focuses exclusively on the comfortable transportion of pets.
On most non-pet flights, pets ...

Apr 21st, 2009 at 8:00AM:
Okay, talk of Orlando triggers images of Mickey Mouse. Trappings of the Disney empire are unavoidable in the town that Walt built, but if you look hard, you'll find a city that can stand on its own. For a touch of style, dash off to downtown Orlando and check out the city's art-themed hotels. You'll find dramatic expression without having to contend with Donald Duck's refusals to be ...

Apr 14th, 2009 at 6:00PM: Meetings and conventions aren't just falling ... they're actively being canceled. While it's easy to write this off as the erosion of a wasteful corporate perk, it translates to genuine financial crisis for the travel industry. Over the past six months, 402 conventions and meetings have been canceled in Las Vegas alone. According to the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, this ...

Apr 14th, 2009 at 11:30AM: They say that the vast majority of problems you'll encounter while flying are during takeoff. That's what happened to Doug White and his family. Pilot Joe Cabuk's head fell back, and he died. In a display worthy of a Hollywood script, White got on the radio and was walked through the landing of the King Air in which he was promoted from passenger to captain. It did help that White had a pilot's ...

Apr 4th, 2009 at 10:00AM: Orland's "Bundles of Free Smiles" campaign just got a little more interesting. Now through the end of June, you can take care of the "Deal of the Week" to squeeze a bit more value out of your trip – up to $100 worth. For the first two weeks of this program, it could be three times that! First, go to VisitOrlando.com/smile by April 17, 2009. Book four nights at the Orlando World Center ...

Apr 2nd, 2009 at 4:00PM: On this day in 1513, Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon arrived in Florida. Nearly 500 years later, the view has certainly changed. This long exposure shot by ohad* is a good example of the transformation. The reflections on the water and the illuminated sky make for a nice effect. I'm sure this shot was taken from a solid platform to get the long exposure. A dock perhaps? It's been a while ...

Mar 31st, 2009 at 9:00AM: If your parents told you your career at Chuck E. Cheese was a dead end, you can finally flaunt your possibilities. The Miami Seaquarium is ready to make your dreams come true. Its annual Easter Egg Hunt Celebration starts Friday, April 10, 2009 and runs through Sunday, April 12. To make the event come to life, the Seaquarium needs mascots, and that's where you get involved. You can bring your own ...

Mar 28th, 2009 at 2:00PM: The bed and breakfast community will probably put a hit out on me soon, if the comments from my last article are any indication. But, I'll take my life into my hands and cover the latest news from BedandBreakfast.com anyway.

Mar 20th, 2009 at 2:45PM: All-inclusive now includes a little bit more--your own money, back in your own pocket. Club Med vacations have just gotten 30-40% cheaper. Two sales have sprung up. One is a seven-night, all-inclusive Couples Escape vacation that costs $849 per person for couples (normally $1260-1400). The deal is valid at seven Mexican/Caribbean resorts, from Ixtapa to Martinique. The second is a seven-night, ...

Mar 17th, 2009 at 9:00AM: Smaller airports may have trouble supporting the needs of large airlines, but smaller carriers are filling in the gaps. Direct Air, for example, moved into Toledo to connect those Ohioans with Myrtle Beach, SC and Punta Gorda, FL – at dirt cheap prices. And, everyone knows that Toledo is a hotbed of trendsetters ... Mar 12th, 2009 at 5:00PM: Today's photo of the day comes from Willy Volk at Lake Worth, Florida. So often when I'm browsing through Flickr, I'll see a picture like this and exclaim, "why didn't I think of this?!" Clicking on the metadata to Willy's picture shows he used the aperture priority mode (as explained by Karen Walrond) which gave him a shutter speed of 1/8th of a second. Just the right amount of time to blur the ...

Mar 8th, 2009 at 4:00PM: Today's photo comes to us from Guillermo Esteves, who took this "portrait" of a statue head at the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in Miami, FL. You just don't see a lot of close-ups of like this, but it's a great photographic trick. All too often when shooting a statue or a building, the tendency is to step back and get the entire subject in your frame. But frequently it's just as useful (and more ...

Feb 26th, 2009 at 11:30AM:
When we flew into Ft. Lauderdale, our original plan was to stay only long enough to drop our daughter and my dad off at their cruise ship before heading out of town for a couple of days. Instead, on a whim, we found ourselves checking into San Souci Resort Hotel for three nights and looking forward to coming back after a jaunt to Orlando once the cruise ship returned.
For an affordable vacation ...

Feb 23rd, 2009 at 4:00PM: Vacation plans are changing. This isn't exactly a surprise. With layoffs mounting and a careful eye trained on every expense, long vacations are becoming short, and short trips aren't straying as far from home. For some destinations, this is actually paying off. A handful of smaller cities are pulling in visitors that normally would set off for grander locales. Charleston, SC and Fort Meyers, FL, ...
